UP Manila Recommended for ISO 9001:2015 Recertification

The University of the Philippines Manila has been recommended for recertification to the ISO 9001:2015 standards after a two-day audit conducted by TÜV NORD Philippines on Nov. 12–13, 2025.

The audit evaluated the university’s Quality Management System (QMS) across academic and administrative offices to ensure compliance with international standards for quality service, operational efficiency, and continual improvement.

UP Manila Quality Assurance Office Director, Dr. Bhabita Murjani, thanked the UP Manila community for their commitment to pursuing excellence. “We are very, very grateful that we actually pursue the mission and vision of UP Manila not with mediocrity but with a high level of excellence,” she said. “We will determine where we stand now and how we can improve ourselves even better because we want a better version of our university.” She encouraged the participants to treat the audit as an opportunity to assess progress and identify areas for improvement.

TÜV NORD Auditor Richard Bacomo outlined the objectives of the audit: to verify the effectiveness of UP Manila’s management system in meeting customer and organizational goals, ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2015 standards, and evaluate corrective actions from previous audits.

The audit covered the Central Administration offices, Office of the Chancellor, the offices of the Vice Chancellors, National Institutes of Health, and the different colleges of UP Manila.

The auditors used random sampling, document reviews, and interviews to verify evidence of implementation and compliance. Bacomo assured that all findings would be treated with confidentiality and that the process aimed to highlight both strengths and opportunities for improvement.

At the conclusion of the assessment, the audit team recommended UP Manila for certificate issuance under ISO 9001:2015, affirming the university’s continued compliance and commitment to quality standards. UP Manila earned an International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2015 certification for its university-wide Quality Management System in December 2022.“
