April 30, 2019 — UP Manila was among the 19 universities and colleges that participated in the All Local Colleges and Universities (ALCU) Event hosted by the University of Makati (UMak) on March 1-2, 2019. UPM athletes joined four events namely badminton, basketball, chess, and volleyball in this year’s sportsfest with the theme “One Torch, One Goal and One in Victory.”
The kick-off ceremony held on March 1 was highlighted by the lighting of the torch by UMak athletes who competed and won medals in various international competitions.
The raising of the university and college flags was done by the presidents and head of delegation of the different ALCU members with UP Manila College of Arts and Sciences Dean Leonardo R. Estacio Jr. heading the UP Manila delegation (and as coach of the UPM Chess team.)
He is one of the prime movers in setting up of the UPM varsity program together with the CAS Department of Physical Education chaired by Prof. John Guiller Realin and Sports Coordinator Prof, Lenita Otadoy-Reyes.
At the said tournament, Trixie Co of the College of Allied Medical Professions snared the first medal for UP Manila, a bronze, in the women’s badminton singles tournament.
