Angeles Family: UPAA 2019 Multigenerational Family Awardee

August 30, 2019 —  This year’s UP Alumni Association awardees yielded 33 individuals, 13 families, and an alumni chapter. The recognition ceremony was held on 24 August 2019 at the Ang Bahay ng Alumni, UP Diliman. One of the 13 families is the Family of Atty. Ciceron Baro Angeles, Sr. (Law 1937) which has produced 8 out of 10 children and 10 grandchildren as UP alumni, several of whom graduated with honors. One of his children is Dr. Josefina Angeles-Tuazon, faculty and former Dean of the College of Nursing, and Dr Eufrosina A. Melendres, pediatric hematologist, retired faculty of Medicine, and former Section Head of PGH Blood Bank.

The Angeles Family has a tradition of service to the nation and commitment to UP principles and values which are the two requirements for the award. The late Atty. Angeles’ father, Pable Angeles y David, was a Senator of the Philippines and longtime Governor of Pampanga. Atty. Angeles served at the Central Bank of the Philippines, retiring as Director of its Legal Department. Five children and one grandchild currently serve as UP faculty. The late matriarch, Eufrosina A. Angeles, served as a community leader and helped found the Philippine Science High School Foundation. They also have a family foundation called Datu, Angeles, David, Mallari Memorial Foundation that serves the indigent people of Bacolor, Pampanga starting in 1994 after the lahar devastation.
