Celebrating Milestones: Grand Festivities Mark 42nd UP Manila Day and the 45th Anniversary of the Autonomy of the Health Sciences Center
Excitement filled the auditorium of the Sports Science and Wellness Center (SSWC) as contenders for the Street Dance Competition faced off during the 42nd celebration of the University of the Philippines Manila Day and the 45th Anniversary of the Autonomy of the Health Sciences Center on Oct. 16, 2024. Students from the College of Dentistry bagged the grand prize with their creative rendition of the Panagbenga Festival followed by participants from the College of Arts and Sciences for their energetic interpretation of the Masskara Festival. Students from the College of Nursing came in third for their unique performance depicting the Sinulog Festival. Chancellor Michael Tee heralded the beginning of the celebration and hailed UP Manila's notable accomplishments in the health sciences field while College of Dentistry Dean Michelle Segarra expressed gratitude to the members of the anniversary committee who patiently shared their time and skills in establishing the event. Dean Maria Constancia Carrillo of the College of Arts and Sciences delivered the closing remarks at the morning program, which was hosted by Prof. John Erick B. Quiniquini.
A Night of Sounds, Lights, Sights, and Moves
Culminating a day full of fun and activities, the evening overflowed with performances and talents as various colleges and units of the University of the Philippines Manila competed in “UP Manila's Got Talent and Cultural Night Show” at the SSWC.
Competitors from the Central Administration, College of Medicine (CM), College of Arts and Sciences, College of Dentistry, College of Public Health, College of Pharmacy (CP), College of Nursing, and College of Allied Medical Professions (CAMP) battled for the Talent Championship through songs, dances, and spoken word poetry.
Here are the winners of the talent competition:
Overall Champion - The Rehabilitones (CAMP)
1st Runner Up - Mr. Romeo Luis Ramirez (CP)
2nd Runner Up - MEDusa (CM)
As this was also a cultural night, various dance groups of the University, including the UP Manila Indayog Dance Varsity, UP CAMP Synergy, UPCD GrooveDex, and the UP Manila D’Streeto V wowed the crowd with their performances.
Prof. Jean David Solis, one of the judges, also entertained the crowd with his rendition of Aerosmith’s “Dream On.” #
