OrCom Students Win Merit Award in the 2014 Philippine Student Quill Awards

A group of fourth year Organizational Communication students won in the 2014 Philippine Student Quill Awards last March 9. They are Paula Apolonio, Nadinne Capistrano, Rose Enriquez, Maruss Sinsay, and Raymond Ruedas. Collectively, this group is known as Team Prodigy after its entry, PRODIGY Magazine. The entry won an Award of Merit under “Category 2: Publication” of the competition. PRODIGY is a magazine which tackles various areas of business communication such as crisis communication, public relations, advertising, etc. The group produced this magazine as a requirement in their Public Relations class, and it was revised and improved to qualify as an entry for the competition.

Team Prodigy said that they would not have had the chance to join the competition if it were not for the support of the OrCom Alumni Association, and the faculty of the Department of Arts and Communication (College of Arts and Sciences) who sponsored the students’ registration fees.

The Philippine Student Quill Awards is one of three annual competitions organized by the local chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). According to its website, the competition “honors excellence in communication in the undergraduate levels. It gathers the best works of students nationwide which they produced for their class, for a club, a volunteer association, an internship, and other non-commercial activities in a student capacity.” (http://iabcphilippines.com/gold-quill-awards/)
