Yokohama City Univ donates money for SHS rehab
Two top officials of Yokohama City University (YCU), Japan — Dr. Yoshio Goshima, Dean, YCU’s Graduate School of Medicine, and Mr. Mitsuya Kodama, Research Associate of Global Cooperation Institute for Sustainable Cities, visited UP Manila on January 17, 2014 as part of situation-gathering for Typhoon Yolanda ravaged areas.
During the visit, the two officials turned over a 1.17 million yen donation to Chancellor Manuel Agulto for the recovery and rehabilitation of UPM’s School of Health Sciences in Palo, Leyte. The amount was raised by YCU faculty and staff as part of their efforts to help in the restoration of four damaged buildings within the SHS campus at the height of the worst typhoon that hit several provinces in November 2013.
In its website report, YCU said it has been collecting information on post-disaster situations by dispatching an expert in disaster medicine who visited the affected sites and held meetings with various stakeholders.

Its website report further stated that “YCU is strongly committed to strengthen ties and promote cooperation with UP Manila, especially in the areas of public health and medicine through continued support for UP’s recovery activities in typhoon-ravaged areas.”
During the UPM visit, the two YCU officials also met with Dr. Lenora Fernandez, head of the UPM College of Medicine’s Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, who oriented them on UPCM’s graduate programs. Dr. Goshima mentioned possible scholarship grants for UPM medical students. Both parties also talked briefly about their respective shortened medical education degrees, which is called the Integrated Arts and Medicine (INTARMED) for UPCM.
