UP Manila, University of Antwerp Prepare for 2025 Clinical Electives

The University of the Philippines (UP) Manila met with Dimitri Geelhand de Merxem, International Coordinator of the University of Antwerp, on Nov. 26, 2024, to facilitate and finalize the preparations for the upcoming clinical electives of medical students from the latter institution. This upcoming student mobility is part of the partnership between the two universities. 

Discussions were held on visa procedures, administrative requirements, and the renewal of agreements. The visit also provided a platform to explore potential collaborations in the fields of biology, public health and rehabilitation sciences covering academic and student mobility, research and knowledge sharing through seminars and fora. After the meeting, De Merxem was also given a tour of the Philippine General Hospital (PGH).

The meeting was attended by representatives from the College of Medicine (CM), including Associate Dean for Academic Development 𝗖𝝾𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗶, International and Local Linkages Coordinator 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗮𝗴𝗽𝗮𝝾, 𝗗𝗿. 𝝖𝗺𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲 𝗠𝝾𝗿𝗲𝗻𝝾, 𝗗𝗿. 𝗦𝘆𝗯𝗶𝗹 𝗟𝗶𝘇𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝘃𝝾, and 𝗗𝗿. 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝘂𝘀 𝝤𝗻𝗴. Also present were Vice Chair for Undergraduate Training 𝗟𝗶𝗮 𝝖𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗹𝗲𝝾-𝗩𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗲𝘃𝗮, Associate Chief Resident for Undergraduate Training and Incoming Chief Resident of the Department of Medicine 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗲𝗹 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝝖𝗹𝘃𝗮𝗿𝗲𝘇, Associate Chief Resident for Undergraduate Training and Incoming Chief Resident of the Department of Medicine, College of Allied Medical Professions Linkages Coordinator 𝝖𝗶𝗹𝗮 𝝢𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗱𝝾𝗻𝗴, and College of Arts and Sciences Department of Biology Chair 𝗝𝗮𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗝𝝾𝗵𝗻 𝝤𝗯𝗶𝗰𝝾.

CM started its partnership with the University of Antwerp in 2019. This collaboration has enabled students from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Antwerp to undertake clinical rotations at PGH. #
