NGOHS celebrates 20th Anniversary

As part of its 20th anniversary celebration, the National Graduate Office for the Health Sciences (NGOHS) recently concluded its highly anticipated 6th Graduate Student Colloquium at Admiral Hotel Manila – MGallery on Roxas Boulevard. The two-day event, held on October 16-17, 2023, brought together a distinguished array of experts and graduate students in the field of health sciences who presented their papers and researches to a panel of critics and advisers.

The first day’s event commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. Christopher Jay T. Robidillo from the College of Arts and Sciences, who served as the Master of Ceremonies. Dr. Leslie M. Dalmacio, the Director of NGOHS, delivered the opening remarks, followed by an inspirational message from then-UP Manila Chancellor, Dr. Carmencita D. Padilla. Dr. Marissa M. Alejandria, Director of the Institute of Clinical Epidemiology, shared her invaluable insights and expertise with the attendees, stressing that “Every successful research starts with a great research question – defining an important one that has not been answered and that can be transformed into a feasible, important, novel, ethical, and relevant study.”

The event then proceeded to the critique and feedback portion, allowing the students to present updates on their theses and dissertations, wherein they received constructive feedback from experts in the field and further refine and improve their research. To accommodate a diverse range of presentations, the event utilized Zoom and featured breakout room sessions that spanned from morning to afternoon. This format allowed for a dynamic and engaging exchange of ideas while maintaining safety and accessibility for all participants.

The culmination of the Colloquium was overseen by Dr. Maria LLaine J. Callanta, representing the College of Medicine, who served as the Master of Ceremonies for the closing program. In recognition of their valuable contributions to the event’s success, certificates were awarded to the diligent moderators, including Dr. Cristina M. Laureta, Dr. Emely D. Dicolen; Dr. Vivien Fe Fadrilan-Camacho, Dr. Raymond Fernando B. Yu, Dr. Julius Andrew P. Nuñez, Dr. Floreliz V. Ngaya-an, Dr. Karen June P. Dumlao, Dr. Maria Stephanie Fay S. Cagayan, and Dr. Yves Y. Palad.

Dr. Nymia P. Simbulan, then-Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, delivered the closing remarks emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration and scholarly endeavors within the field of health sciences.

The 20th anniversary celebration was capped off by a dinner, with guests from various UP system and UP Manila offices, led by Faculty Regent Carl Marc F. Ramota, Assistant Vice President for Human Resources Richard S. Javier, and Dr. Simbulan.
