UPCM inaugurates Clinical Simulation Laboratory

Realizing the need for a state-of-the-art facility to enable students to realistically engage as medical healthcare providers, the University of the Philippines College of Medicine (UPCM) inaugurated the Clinical Simulation Laboratory yesterday, September 20, 2023, at the new Henry Sy Sr. Hall in the Medical Sciences Building. Senator Pia Cayetano, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Innovation, and Futures Thinking, graced the event as Guest of Honor.

Besides empowering medical students to gain real-time experiences as healthcare providers, the Clinical Simulation Library aims to help them develop analytical decision-making without the risk of possible harm to actual patients. In addition, the lab is the result of the desire of its visionaries and contributors to continue nurturing a culture of learning amongst the students and faculty of the UPCM, thereby continuing to uphold the stature of UP Manila as the country’s health sciences center.

The funding and construction of the facility was made possible through the efforts of the UP Manila Chancellor and National Scientist Dr. Carmencita D. Padilla, the Head of the UPCM Clinical Simulation Lab Dr. Maria Julieta V. Germar, and donations from the UP Medical Alumni Society (UPMAS) and the UPCM Mu Sigma Phi Fraternity and Sorority and Office of Senator Pia Cayetano.
