REPSA UP Manila marks 25th year

February 27, 2023 — On December 20, 2022, the Research, Extension, and Professional Staff Association of UP Manila (REPSA-UPM) commemorated its 25th anniversary with a lecture, election of new officers, and Christmas party via Zoom.

Dr. Wilfredo II Francis Mina, OIC president of REPSA and former UPM representative to the UP System REPS Welfare Council, welcomed fellow REPS in his opening remarks. He also delivered a special message on behalf of Chancellor Carmencita D. Padilla.

This was followed by an inspirational message from Dr. Edward HM. Wang, Vice Chancellor for Research. “Celebrating and Strengthening 25 Years of Friendship, Camaraderie, and Professionalism,” was the event’s theme to empower and motivate members to continue the REPS dedication as a unified sector and as UP employees.

The REPSA is the lone REPS association in all constituent units of the UP System. It provides affinity among and coordination for professional and personal matters relevant to the sector and within the University. While annually celebrated every September, this year’s anniversary was moved to December because of the University wide ISO audit preparations and meeting at the time.

Ms. Lara Fatima Lintao, a University Extension Associate I at the University Library and REPS vice president of AUPAEU-Manila, was the event’s guest of honor who shared her insights and reflections on “The REPS Journey.” She recounted the Association’s milestones and her colorful experience as a member and officer of the Association. She also highlighted how members can help each other to become a catalyst for change for the welfare and advancement of fellow REPS.

Following the sharing, outgoing NIH Unit Representative Ms. Ionee Ibarrientos facilitated the election of new officers. The new officers are Mr. Adrian Paul M. Agravante (CPH), president; Mr. Angelo Dela Tonga (NIH), vice-president; Ms. Charmaine M. Caizares (CPH), secretary; Ms. Marlene B. Patron (UL), treasurer, Patricia Marquez (SWF), auditor; and Ms. Karrisa E. Volante (UL), press relations officer.

A total of 47 REPS composed of University librarians, guidance counselors, extension workers, and researchers attended the event. The event’s master of ceremonies was Mr. Agravante who delivered his inaugural statement following his appointment as REPSA president.
