December 4, 2023 – In a significant development, the longstanding collaboration between the University of the Philippines Manila (UPM) and Gunma University Japan has reached new heights with the renewal of their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on December 4, 2023, at the UPM Boardroom. The MOU renewal and signing also served as the first formal meeting and introduction of Chancellor Michael L. Tee to the representatives of Gunma University.

Representing Gunma University Japan were Dr. Takatoshi Makino (Overseas Training Program Chair) and Dr. Takayuki Saitoh (Dean of Graduate School), while Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. Bernadette Heizel Manapat-Reyes, College of Nursing (CN) Dean Dr. Sheila R. Bonito, International Linkages Coordinator Asst. Prof. Julienne Ivan D. Soberano, Asst. Prof. Josephine E. Cariaso (CN), and Office for International Linkages Director Dr. Vivien Fe F. Fadrilan-Camacho accompanied Chancellor Tee in representing UPM.

The agreement aims to enhance the existing cooperative relations between UP Manila and Gunma University Japan, fostering a stronger connection between the two institutions. Cooperation will occur within fields that are mutually acceptable and aligned with the policies, academic programs, research activities, and other academic undertakings of each university.

The MOU renewal signifies a continued dedication to the advancement of education, research, and international cooperation between UP Manila and Gunma University Japan, setting the stage for further academic achievements and cross-cultural understanding. #
