Puno ng Pag-asa, Makulay na Pasko: UP Manila, PGH kicks off Christmas Month 2023

To formally begin the celebration of this year’s Christmas season, the University of the Philippines Manila (UPM) and the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) held a series of activities on December 1, 2023, which was attended by officials, faculty, and staff from both units. The theme from UPM, ‘Puno ng Pag-Asa, Makulay na Pasko’ promised a vibrant and colorful Christmas, while PGH embraced ‘Pag-asa, Ginhawa, Hilom’—which resonated with hope and healing.

The kick-off began with the celebration of Thanksgiving Mass at the UP-PGH Chapel, wherein the celebrant, Rev. Fr. Eli Rowdy Lumbo, SJ, exhorted the congregation to be thankful amid the troubles brought about by everyday life, and those which happen in the world.

Thereafter, the main Kick-Off and Tree Lighting Ceremony began at the PGH Flagpole & Oblation Plaza, with the UPM Chorale delivering the doxology. Thereafter, UP Manila Chancellor Dr. Michael L. Tee conveyed a heartfelt message about Christmas to the attendees. 2023 UPM Christmas Celebration Committee Chairperson Dr. Michael Antonio F. Mendoza and PGH Christmas Celebration Committee Chairperson Dr. John C. Añonuevo also shared inspiring messages, underscoring the significance of solidarity and celebration during the holiday season. The program also featured musical intermission numbers by the UP Med Choir and the PGH-Department of Medicine.

The highlight of the evening was the UPM-PGH Lightshow sponsored by Firefly Electric and Lighting Corporation, and augmented by the Christmas Tree decorations made by the College of Dentistry, delighting the audience with a stunning light and music show.

Dr. Anthony Geronimo H. Cordero and Dr. Krizzia Rae B. Jabonillo served as Masters of Ceremony. #
