PISTA: UPM MUSEUM OF A HISTORY OF IDEAS CELEBRATES 9TH ANNIVERSARY

The Museum of a History of Ideas (MHI) celebrated its 9th anniversary themed “Pista: Ika-9 na Anibersaryo at Pagsasalo ng UP Manila Museum of a History of Ideas” on October 20, 2023 at the Bay View Park Hotel, Ermita, Manila. Pista celebrates the hard work put in by the Museum’s leadership and staff, and is a way to thank those who made its formation and upkeep possible.

Notable guests included UP Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Leo Cubillan; former Chancellor of UP Manila, Dr. Ramon Arcadio; and UP Manila Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. Nymia Simbulan. Other guests included the heads, deputy heads, and representatives from various UP Manila offices such as the CPDMO, HRDO, Ugnayan ng Pahinungod, and IPPAO.

Dr. Rafael C. Bundoc, Museum Chair, delivered the opening remarks, wherein he acknowledged the guests and gave a quick recap of his work as curator and the work they put in in founding and maintaining the Museum. He gave special mention to Dr. Cubillan, who, in the Museum’s earliest days, did not hesitate to “roll up his sleeves and get dirty” when he helped in the restoration of the area prior to its conversion into a museum. He encouraged the guests to continue supporting the Museum and expressed hope in its immediate reopening. As he ended his speech, Dr. Bundoc acknowledged the staff of the Museum and thanked them for supporting him for the past 9 years.

In her video message, Dr. Carmencita D. Padilla, UP Manila Chancellor from November 2014 to October 2023, greeted the guests and congratulated the Museum on its anniversary. She also expressed gratitude to those who contributed financial and material support, as well as those who gave priceless artifacts to be displayed. In closing, Dr. Padilla stressed the importance of having such a structure to preserve the rich history of the university, which is also a reflection of the history of the country.

The program was hosted by Dr. Anthony Cordero, Director of the UP Manila Community Health and Development Program, and Ms. Faye Arguzon of the MHI. Ms. Jazz Reformado, a member of the UP Manila Chorale, gave special song numbers to entertain the guests.
