Text by Dr. Cesar Perez Jr.

The University of the Philippines Medical Alumni Society (UPMAS) held its annual Homecoming and Alumni Awards Night on Dec. 19, 2024, at the Shangri-La The Fort, Manila. This year’s slogan is “PagpUPugay at Pa99uni74,” epitomized by this year’s homecoming host, the Silver Jubilarians of Class 1999, and the Golden Jubilarians of Class 1974.

UPMAS President Dr. Ryan Capitulo of Class 99 led the proceedings, invoking the realization and response of the jubilarians in supporting the College of Medicine with numerous projects throughout the year: Research Dissemination Grant, Mutual Assistance Fund, Continuing Medical Education, Community Outreach, and other fundraising programs.

Prominent university officials were present, led by UP President Angelo Jimenez, Chancellor Michael Tee, Dean Charlotte Chiong, and Philippine General Hospital (PGH) Director Gerardo Legaspi, along with UPMAS officers and alumni from all over the country and abroad.

Dr. Gerardo Legaspi, director of the Philippine General Hospital, lauded the outstanding accomplishments of the alumni of the University of the Philippines College of Medicine (UPCM).

“One cannot hide that he or she is from UPCM,” he said to the jubilarians.

Dr. Gerardo Legaspi, director of the Philippine General Hospital, lauded the outstanding accomplishments of the alumni of the University of the Philippines College of Medicine (UPCM).

“Indeed, it shines bright and stands out in particular in big or small acts of service: in practicing daily medicine with competence, compassion, pride, and ethics; in teaching young future doctors what they have painstakingly learned through decades of experience; in constantly honing their craft both here and abroad; in keeping up with the latest developments and maintaining the standards of care for their patients; in building and upholding all of their own lovely families; in evolving into pillars of the community and society at large; in maintaining close-knit friendships with their classmates through the years; and culminating in this wonderful celebratory and joyous Jubilee year,”
