CAMP marks 60th year with webinars on technical and translational research

January 31, 2023 — Through an online research conference entitled “Transcend: CAMP Transcends to New Frontiers”, the College of Allied Medical Professions (CAMP) celebrated its 60th anniversary on October 8, 2022 to November 27, 2022.

Two series spread across the two said months tackled the technical and clinical aspects of doing research where presenters from various fields imparted their expertise to improve the capacities of allied medical professionals.

With the first half of the conference tagged “Opening Research Frontiers for the Busy Practitioner”, the first day, October 8, had Professor Rolando T. Lazaro talk through the intricacies of creating case reports, types, major components, differences from other clinical write ups, and the common issues faced during its writing process. The professor stressed that this can be a very valuable resource for educational and research breakthroughs.

On October 9, Assistant Professor Ralph Kevin Genoguin reviewed the major components of quantitative data analysis, as well as its types and proper applications in the allied health professions.

Clinical Series

The second half of the anniversary opened with Asst. Professor Jay Allen B. Villon introducing Universal Design Learning (UDL) on November 5. UDL is a research framework that pursues access, participation, and inclusivity among learners through designing approaches that address one, learner diversity such as language, ethnicity, religion, and functional abilities; and two, environmental barriers to execute such strategies.

During the second day, November 13, Ms. Bernice Alecsa D. Austria tackled multilingualism, its causes and effects to the person and society, the challenges faced by a multilingual society, and the language profile of the Philippines, among others. Ms. Audrey Anne D. Esguerra, physical therapist, led the last day’s discussion on November 27 with her presentation on promoting physical activity within the pediatric population. Esguerra enumerated the benefits of physical activity and reported as well the status of children’s physical activity all over the Philippines. She also discussed how physical literacy affects a child’s motivation to participate in physical activities.
