Responsibility, selfnessness, and reliability was the central theme in UP Manila’s celebration of Father’s Day on June 22, 2026, which also doubled as a recognition day for the administrative personnel for their vital contributions on public service, responsibility, and teamwork in sustaining institutional excellence.
Supervising Administrative Officer of the Human Resource Development Office (HRDO) Jorel A. Manalo lauded the abovementioned qualities as essential traits of a good father and values that should be embodied by good government employees.

“He must be selfless, he must be responsible, he must be reliable, he must be a role model,” Manalo said during the university’s flag ceremony on the same day.
He reminded employees that even seemingly simple tasks contribute significantly to the university’s operations. “Responsibilidad po nating pumasok ng maaga at gawin nang mahusay at tama ang ating mga gawain,” Manalo said. He also called on employees to remain faithful to their duty as public servants. “Nawa po sa bawat oras, sa bawat minuto na ating ginagawa sa universidad na ito, ay ang iniisip po natin ay kapakanan po ng publiko, hindi po ang ating pansariling interest,” he said.
Manalo added that faculty members fulfill their responsibility through teaching, while researchers contribute by generating knowledge that improves people’s quality of life. In closing, he paid tribute to fathers and parental figures in the university community,
Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance Dr. Johanna Patricia Cañal likewise acknowledged the often-unseen contributions of administrative personnel in helping UP Manila achieve institutional milestones.
She cited UP Manila’s recent performance in the U.S. News Best Global Universities rankings, where the university placed 447th worldwide and remained the only Philippine university included in the Top 500. She noted that while such recognition is often attributed to students, faculty members, and researchers, administrative personnel play an equally important role in enabling the university to function effectively and achieve these milestones.
Vice Chancellor Cañal stressed that administrative staff are integral to the university’s daily operations. She encouraged employees to continue reporting to work on time and performing their duties diligently, expressing confidence that such dedication would help UP Manila reach even greater heights in the future.
