Carrillo appointed new CAS Dean

The College of Arts and Sciences welcomed the year with the appointment of Prof. Maria Constancia Carrillo from the Department of Physical Sciences and Mathematics (DPSM) as its new dean after the UP Board of Regents’ 1367th meeting held on January 27.

She succeeds Dean Leonardo Estacio, Jr. whose second term ended on December 31, 2021 and will serve for three years from January 27, 2022 to January 26, 2025.

Carillo, as flagship projects, proposed her strategic academic plan entitled S.I.G.LO., while emphasizing the need for the college to operationally adapt to the pandemic.

Standing for “Sustaining Academic Excellence”, “Increased Research Capacity and Development”, “Globally competitive CAS community”, “Leading with transparency and consistency”, and “Outstanding public service initiatives”; SIGLO envisions the strengthening of CAS as inspired by the 100th year founding celebration of the Rizal Hall – an historical hallmark of the college.

Several programs were laid out including the use of digitized systems for teaching, learning, and work processes; internationalization opportunities for students; establishment of a quality management office; and institution of short certificate courses for non-UP constituents.

The members of the UP Manila community congratulate Carrillo and wish her the best in her new position as CAS dean.
