The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) of the University of the Philippines Manila recently unveiled a new little theater dedicated to fostering creativity and providing opportunities for students involved in performing arts.

In a simple gathering on September 17, 2025, CAS officials expressed its gratitude to members of the alumni, Kenneth Benedicto and Sixto Benedicto from Cebu City, whose significant contributions helped in turning an old classroom into a vibrant hub for student performances and arts education. The intimate performance venue is equipped with state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems and will be under the management of the Department of Arts and Communication (DAC).

The scope of the upgrading work for the Little Theater included architectural, auxiliary and electrical works, including the installment of the light and sound system, and stage construction with particular focus on the safety of its users, Architect Marimar Rubido of the Campus Planning, Development, and Maintenance Office (CPDMO).

In the gathering, CAS Dean Ma. Teresa G. De Guzman reiterated their gratitude to the alumni donors and shared the story of bringing this vision to life.

Kenneth Benedicto expressed pride in the positive impact of their contributions to students and to the University.

“With our little contribution, I hope we will be able to uplift UP and help the students to learn,” he said.

The CAS officials also gave the Benedicto brothers a tour of the CAS facility, providing them the chance to meet faculty members from various departments, and reminisce about shared memories.

Also in the program, the chairpersons from the different CAS departments showcased their strategic academic initiatives, programs, and ongoing and proposed projects.

The inauguration of the new facility underscores the significant impact of alumni engagement and collaborative spirit. The new little theater is expected to become a cornerstone of CAS’s arts program, fostering a new generation of performers and artists. It is a testament to the enduring spirit of alumni and their commitment to enriching the student experience and quality of education. The generosity creates a lasting legacy that will inspire and empower not just the students of CAS but also other colleges for years to come.
