The University of the Philippines Manila will begin offering certificate courses on medical imaging to radiographers, medical officers, and Information Technology Personnel following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with FUJIFILM Healthcare Asia Pacific (HCAP) Ptd. Ltd., on Mar. 27, 2025.
This new academic offering aligns with UP Manila’s direction in forging partnerships with academic institutions, government agencies, and industry leaders as the country’s premier institution in health sciences education. This was highlighted in the commitment made by Chancellor Michael Tee before the Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC) in 2024 at the Malacañang Palace as part of the government’s response towards improving healthcare in the country.

Faculty members from Thailand’s Mahidol University will lead the courses for the three levels of the FUJIFILM Asia-Pacific Healthcare Learning Academy (FAHLA) beginning in May 2025.
The first level of the course, Digital Imaging and Medical Informatics (DIMI), is a foundation course that will lead to the second level, Medical Informatics Intermediate Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) Admin Certification Course. This course will tackle data storage, network management, and security risk management. The third level is the Medical Informatics Advanced Course and will tackle vendor-neutral archiving methods.
Noriyuki Kawakubo, managing director of the FUJIFILM HCAP in Singapore, said this is the company’s third collaboration with an academic institution, following Mahidol University, National University of Malaysia, and Universitas Airlangga in Indonesia.
“The establishment of the UP-FUJIFILM Asia Pacific Healthcare Learning Academy (FAHLA) for regional advanced healthcare informatics is a testament to our shared vision of imparting healthcare professionals with cutting-edge knowledge in healthcare informatics, medical imaging, and AI innovations,” Kawakubo said during the event.#
