Representatives from the University of the Philippines Manila and Marinduque State University (MarSU) discuss the signed partnership understanding on disaster risk reduction and management and response.

The University of the Philippines (UP) Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management in Health Program (DRRMHP) began the year by signing a new partnership with Marinduque State University (MarSU) in support of the latter’s school-based Disaster Risk Reduction Office on Jan.17, 2025 at the UP Manila President’s Office. This partnership aims at contributing to the development and strengthening of disaster resilience of the country.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), characterized as a “co-creation” by Chancellor Michael Tee, focuses on addressing the lapses and gaps on disaster risk reduction and management and response through capacity building exercises. Another way forward will be through the exchange of disaster response planning and the benchmarking of equipment and facilities for potential development.

Authorizing officials from MarSU were President Diosdado Zulueta, Executive Assistant Lenie Rodriguez, and Presidential Management Staff Chief Alfredo Ofrecio. With Chancellor Tee were Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance Johanna Patricia Adevoso-Cañal and DRRMH Program Chair Carlos Gundran, who initiated the partnership

The chancellor also took initiative and introduced Dr. Zulueta to the graduate program offered by the College of Nursing for the promotion and professional development of the nursing and midwifery faculty of MarSU.

The MOU signing was facilitated and organized by the Office of International and Local Linkages and the UP Manila DRRM-H Program.#

Officials from both universities ink copies of the MOU.
