The University of the Philippines Manila actively took part in the 4th Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill, held on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 9:00 AM. This coordinated exercise aligns with Rule 6, Section 7 of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act 10121, also known as the “Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010.” The law mandates the regular participation of government agencies, constitutional offices, and state universities in quarterly drills, as stipulated in Memorandum Order No. PAJ 23-05 dated February 28, 2023.

Chancellor Michael L. Tee, as Incident Commander, joined forces with Dr. Carlos Primero D. Gundran, Chair of the Technical Working Group (TWG) for UP Manila’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, in leading the institution’s active involvement in the event.

The quarterly National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill serves as a crucial reminder of the importance of disaster preparedness and response for UP Manila and the broader community. It underscores the commitment of educational institutions and government agencies to ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens in the face of potential natural disasters.
