The University of the Philippines Manila (UP Manila) Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (OVCAA) and the Committee on Instruction, hosted the “Tertulia ng mga Guro sa UP Manila: Usaping Makabagong Pagtuturo” to explore innovative teaching practices while embracing Filipino culture and identity on October 17, 2025, at the Museum of a History of Ideas.
The lecture-fellowship series highlighted three UP Manila faculty members known for their inventive approaches to teaching.
Dr. Nemuel Fajutagana opened the session with the topic “Your Classroom as a Central Processing Unit: Maximizing Educational Technology Towards HOTS.” He discussed ways to use educational technology to develop thinking skills. This was followed by a talk by Dr. Voltaire Organo with “ChemCreatives: Creative Inputs and Outputs in Chemistry Education,” showcasing how creativity can deepen student engagement and improve learning outcomes in science.
Asst. Prof. Shiela May Jayme Nacabu-an presented “Pharmapreneur and MyDispense: Project-Based Learning and Simulation Models for Enhanced Outcomes-Based Education,” sharing practical simulation and project-based learning tools used in pharmacy education.
Aside from the lectures, the event also featured special performances by the UP Manila Chorale, the Adamson University Dance Company – Folk, and Dr. Ramon Acoymo, along with a heritage message delivered by Prof. Honey Libertine Achanzar-Labor.
Organized as part of the Faculty Development Program of the Committee on Instruction, Tertulia continues to serve as a venue for educators to share experiences, exchange strategies, and strengthen collegial ties. The event reaffirmed UP Manila’s commitment to nurturing innovative, engaged, and culturally grounded teaching.#
