This year’s Centre Director’s Report showcases the accomplishments of the College/Regional Centre in line with the Dean and Centre Director’s Five Point Agenda for 2019-2022.
Over the past year, we engaged in activities to revitalize our undergraduate and graduate programs to meet national and international capacity requirements through the review and revision of its flagship academic programs and development of new programs. We have also spearheaded a number of activities like course redesign and remote learning, retrofitting of facilities to accommodate the limited face-to-face classes of undergraduate and graduate students, and the organization of a Philippine-based Network of HEIs Offering Academic Public Health Programs.
The strengthening of the relevance and impact of CPH’s research portfolio in improving health outcomes has enabled the College/Regional Centre to conduct research and research-related projects for public health and publish scientific papers in various local and international journals. We were likewise able to release the Philippine Journal for Health Research and Development (PJHRD) commemorative issue and publish COVID-19 related teaching, learning, research and public service initiatives. The other notable accomplishments in the area of research include the conduct of the 2021 UP Manila 17th Science and Technology Week and the CPH @95 Public Health Research Forum.
The enrichment of CPH’s public service and engagement has resulted in the provision of training to health professionals nationally and from across the region and technical assistance to various local and international institutions/organizations. The expansion and strengthening of national and regional partnerships in public health education, research, and public service enabled the College/Regional Centre to foster partnerships with experts from various local and international institutions and organizations, work with adjunct and visiting professors in its teaching, research, and public service activities, and engage in several internationalization activities.
The creation of a more conducive and supportive learning environment for students, faculty, REPS, and administration personnel strengthened the link/relation between CPH administration and students; assisted students in their academic life by providing information/facilitating applications for scholarships and other student support; and created documented information for College operational procedures and work instructions consistent with ISO standards, among others.
We at UP CPH/TROPMED Philippines will continue to uphold and advance Public Health, through teaching, research, public service, and training in the country and the region. We hope that this Centre Director’s Report will serve as a source of inspiration, pride, and hope as we all move forward together.
