The Workshop on Cochlear and Bonebridge Implantation, a two-day cochlear implantation dissection course, was on Dec. 4 and 5, 2024, at the College of Medicine, bringing together otolaryngologists and audiologists from across the region to enhance their surgical skills and knowledge in cochlear implant technology. Hosted by the Philippine National Ear Institute of the National Institutes of Health (PNEI-NIH) and the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery of the Philippine General Hospital, the course featured hands-on dissections and expert-led discussions.
Participants engaged in practical sessions where they meticulously practiced the dissection of temporal bone specimens, allowing them to familiarize themselves with the intricate anatomy involved in cochlear implantation.
The course also included lectures on the latest research and developments in cochlear implant technology, ensuring that attendees left with both practical skills and theoretical knowledge to apply in their practices. Renowned specialists in the field provided insights into best practices, troubleshooting techniques, and advancements in cochlear implant devices.
The feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing gratitude for the opportunity to learn from experts and collaborate with peers. The course not only fostered skill development but also encouraged networking among professionals dedicated to advancing auditory health. As cochlear implants continue to transform the lives of individuals with hearing loss, courses like this play a crucial role in preparing healthcare providers to meet the growing demand for these life-changing devices.
