The College of Nursing (CN) and the Division of Nursing Research and Development, Department of Nursing Services, Philippine General Hospital facilitated their annual research forum on April 8, 2025, presenting nurse-led researches and quality improvement undertakings with results and findings relevant in nursing practice.
This learning activity is in pursuit of improved healthcare professional competencies, patient health outcomes, and healthcare environment in the Philippines. This is also consistent with the university’s vision of discovery and research and an environment that nurtures our mind and body.
“We hope that by strengthening the research component in our program and also having collaborative research, we can address more priority health needs,” CN Dean Sheila Bonito said. She highlighted the initiatives of CN and UP-PGH Department of Nursing Services for their upcoming collaborative activities in terms of faculty-student exchange to strengthen the integration of theory and practice.

“Why does health services research (HSR) matter?” Vice Chancellor for Research (VCR) Leslie Dalmacio rhetorically asked the participants, highlighting the relevance of HSR in the healthcare field as the foundation of evidence-based practice and root of continuous quality improvement (CQI). “Health services research examines how people access healthcare, the cost of care, and the outcomes of that care. It looks at the entire healthcare system, how services are organized, financed, delivered, and how quality and equity are achieved.”
She also posted a call to action to commit to shaping health services research in the Philippines.#
