The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) through the Laboratory of Materials (LABMAT) and the GAEA Research Laboratory conducted the 2nd Materials Chemistry for High School Teachers Seminar-Workshop last Jan. 15, 2025, with representatives from Paco Catholic School, the University of Batangas, and the Philippine Normal University as participants.

This seminar-workshop focused on Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDX). It was a combination of a 30-minute lecture on the concepts of the devices used, and hands-on training on actual experimentation utilizing the SEM-EDX used by the Department of Physical Sciences and Mathematics (DPSM).

The yearly activity, organized by CAS Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Laboratory of Materials (LABMAT) Principal Investigator Julius Andrew Nuñez and Assistant Professor Migel Antonio Catalig of the GAEA Research Laboratory, started in 2024 as one of the extension programs of CAS aimed at equipping high school teachers with knowledge in different materials chemistry characterization techniques that can help them and their respective students during conduct of research.#
