University of Philippines Manila

Admissions: Frequently Asked Questions

GENERAL INFORMATION BULLETIN ON FIRST YEAR ADMISSIONS

Academic Year 2023-2024

Q. What are the guidelines for appeals for non-qualifiers in UP Manila?

A. The guidelines on appeals for admission in UP Manila can be accessed through the Office of the University Registrar (OUR) website at https://our.upm.edu.ph.

Q. Who may appeal for admission into UP Manila?

A. UPCA non-qualifiers may appeal for admission as long as their UPG scores are qualified based on the cut-off of UP Manila which is 2.580. Appeals of those with lower UPG scores will not be considered.

Q. Are qualifiers of other UP campuses allowed to transfer to UP Manila?

A. Yes, but they are considered as appellants and are of the least priority. They should also apply by accomplishing the google form for appeals.

Q. What is the process of appealing for admission into UP Manila?

A. The application for appeals for admission into UP Manila will be done by accomplishing the Google form that will be provided by the Office of Student Affairs. There is no need to prepare a letter or any document except for the communication the applicant received from the Office of Admissions (letter of regret for non-qualifiers that contains the UPG score or the acceptance letter for those who qualified to the other UP campuses). The applicant will be asked to attach this when accomplishing the Google form.

Q. What are the criteria for evaluating applicants who are appealing for admission into UP Manila?

A. The different degree programs have different criteria and requirements for screening the applicants and these are written in the guidelines. Generally, the evaluation is based on the UPG score but some degree programs have additional criteria and requirements.

Q. How will an applicant know if his/her UPG score (for qualifiers) and/or percentile scores in the different UPCA categories (which are identified as criteria for evaluation in some degree programs) will qualify for a particular degree program?

A. The UPG score and percentile scores in the different subjects in the UPCA (e.g. Math, Science, English, etc) will not be known by the applicants and can only be requested by UP Manila from the Office of Admissions after one appeals for admission.

Q. What are the degree programs available for those assigned to Degree Program With Available Slots (DPWAS)?

A. DPWAS qualifiers are instructed to choose four (4) degree programs, any combination of BS* and BA programs except for the ones that they have been screened for prior to the release of the UPCA results (this means that they are not qualified anymore to these degree programs). They also need to undergo the screening from the degree programs they signified their intent to. Assignment to a degree program of their choice is not guaranteed and will depend on the UPG score, slot availability, and the result of the screening of the degree program.

*note that BS degree programs may have limited slots.

Q. What is the process for waitlisted applicants?

A. For those classified as waitlisted, the OUR will process their placement as soon as the list of qualifiers is received from the Office of Admissions and they will be informed through email or through their contact details regarding their placement.
