In line with its commitment to strengthen capacity-building and skills enhancement opportunities for its faculty, the University of the Philippines Manila, through the Quality Assurance Office (QAO) and the National Teachers’ Training Center for the Health Professions (NTTC-HP), organized a whole-day training on Outcome-Based Education (OBE) titled “Designing with Purpose: Learning Outcomes that Matter” on August 14, 2025 at the College of Dentistry Auditorium.
With the aim of deepening their understanding and skills in formulating, evaluating, and aligning program outcomes and curricula using the OBE framework, the training gathered 78 participants, composed of faculty members and curriculum committee representatives from the different colleges of UP Manila. The training was moderated by QAO Director Bhabita Murjani, who also facilitated the plenary and open forum sessions.
Professor Nemuel Fajutagana of NTTC-HP delivered the opening lecture on “Quality Assurance through OBE”, which focused on how OBE serves as a tool for ensuring quality in higher education through outcome-driven curriculum planning and development.
This was followed by Dean Maria Elizabeth Grageda of NTTC-HP, who discussed “The OBE Framework”, highlighting the importance of outcomes as a central element of OBE and explaining how these outcomes can be formulated, classified, and evaluated within the framework.
In the afternoon session, NTTC-HP College Secretary and QAO Assistant Director Emely Dicolen presented the lecture “OBE and the Course Syllabus”, which guided participants on designing course syllabi aligned with program outcomes and the OBE framework.
The program also featured interactive workshops: Formulating Program Outcomes and Curriculum Mapping and Course Outcomes, allowing participants to practice revising outcomes of their curricular programs and aligning them with courses. These sessions ensured relevance to the roles expected of UP Manila graduates in the health professions and other fields.#
