UP Manila Ranked Among the World’s Best Universities Anew

The University of the Philippines Manila solidified its streak in the rankings of the world’s top universities.

Only two universities appear in the 2025 edition of the Global 2000 list presented by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) on June 2, 2025: UP Manila and UP Diliman.

Named as the country’s top-ranking university by CWUR, the country’s premier health sciences institution ranked at 1,677, representing the top 7.9% of the overall 21,462 universities evaluated. The institution’s employability rank is at 1,047, and its research rank, 1607.

UP Manila’s overall score in the ranking is 67.4.

In the Asian universities ranking, UP Manila placed at 646 and overtook China’s Hainan Medical University, Liaoning Normal University, Zhejiang Ocean University, Ningxia Medical University, Air Force Engineering University Shaoxing University, Sri Lanka’s University of Peradeniya, and Japan’s Kyorin University, among others.

In the overall ranking, UP Manila overtook USA’s University of Tulsa, Colombia’s Antonio Nariño University, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, France’s University of Perpignan, University of Lahore, and Cleveland State University, among others.

CWUR has been publishing the academic ranking of global universities since 2012 to help governments and universities improve educational and research outcomes. The universities are ranked according to four factors without relying on surveys and university data submissions: education (25%), employability (25%), quality of faculty (10%), and research (40%).

“This recognition is an inspiration for the UP Manila community to continue fulfilling our mandate to teach, create new knowledge, and serve the nation,” Chancellor Michael Tee said.

In addition to quality scientific and medical research, UP Manila also conducts studies on Artificial Intelligence, data science, digital information ecosystems, and personalized human-centered technologies.

In March 2025, UP Manila secured the 479th spot in the top 500 Best Global Universities ranked by U.S. News & World Report. It was the only Philippine University in the ranking published by the U.S.-based digital media company. The rankings were based on 13 indicators that measure the educational institutions’ academic research performance and their global and regional reputations, including the number of publications produced, total citations, books, international collaborations, conferences, regional research reputation, and global research reputation.#
