After the recent fires which struck two areas of UP Diliman in just one month (bowling center and parts of the canteen of the UP Alumni Association Hostel on 30 June, CASAA Food Center on 13 June), UP Manila isn’t taking chances with its own properties.
On 22 June 2015, nineteen building administrators attended a half-day training program on “Comprehensive Preventive Maintenance” for UP Manila colleges and units. Organized by the Campus Planning, Development, & Maintenance Office (CPDMO), with support from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Planning & Development (OVCPD), the main goal of the seminar is “to further equip the building managers in risk assessment and in controlling hazards in the workplace.” This program is part of the Training for Building Managers project initiated by the University in May 2012.
Six topics were taught: “Mechanical Services/Plumbing and Sanitary Services” (by Engr. Lauro Canceran); “Electrical Services and Electrical Equipment (by Engr. Renato Remorque; “Civil and Engineering Works/Main Structure/Internal Construction” (by Engr. Jefferson Lim); (5) “External/Internal Decoration/Finishing and Fittings” (by Arch. Leonard Cordero); and, (6) “IT-Based Monitoring System” (by Ms. Rina Alcid). Near the end of the training, the participants workshopped to come up with a proposed Campus General Preventive Maintenance Program for Adoption and Adaption. This was presented by Engr. Canceran. All inputs were integrated into a Modified Preventive Maintenance for College/Unit.
