The Health Promotion Program (HPP) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) was recognized by the Eastern Visayas Center for Health Development (EVCHD) during the Eastern Visayas Health Summit and Awards 2024 held last Dec. 11, 2024 in Tacloban City. The award acknowledges HPP’s unwavering commitment to empowering communities and improving health outcomes through the implementation of Participatory Action Research in Eastern Visayas.
The summit’s theme “Healthy Partnerships, Healthy Communities: Shaping the Future of Health Together,” continues to inspire HPP to collaborate for and spur innovations for the betterment of health of every Filipino.
HPP is a newly established research initiative at the NIH of the University of the Philippines Manila, launched through a seed grant from the Department of Health as part of its long-term strategy to deepen the country’s expertise in health promotion research. It employs a multifaceted approach that combines rigorous research with capacity building, policy and community engagement, and strategic communication to contribute in the empowerment of Filipinos to take charge of their well-being.
Drawing on a unique blend of research and practical experience, HPP’s pioneering team brings together diverse disciplines like public health, health promotion, policy, epidemiology, communication, and social sciences, fostering an interdisciplinary approach to health promotion research.#
