P Manila, CN, and NTTCHP officials and faculty pose for a group photo with the visiting global health leaders.
The College of Nursing (CN) hosted the Philippine-Pacific Health Initiative (PPHI) site visit on Nov. 28, 2024, which brought together esteemed global health leaders from the Pacific Region and World Health Organization, including Tuvalu Minister of Health Tuafafa Latasi, Federated States of Micronesia Minister of Health Marcus Samo, and World Health Organization (WHO) Chief Nursing Officer Amelia Latu Afuhaamango Tuipulotu.
The objectives of the site visit included the following: highlighting Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) curriculum of CN, showcasing its outcomes-based education framework and alignment with global nursing competencies; introduction of the CN International Study Program, emphasizing student exchange initiatives and partnerships with global nursing institutions; and demonstration of teaching and learning innovations of CN through simulation-based education, integrating technology to enhance clinical competencies.
This collaboration underscores CN’s leadership in advancing nursing education in the Philippines and beyond, fostering global health partnerships as a WHO Collaborating Center (WHOCC) for Leadership in Nursing Development. The college stands as the sole nursing institution in the Philippines holding this prestigious distinction, and is one of only six WHOCCs in the entire Western Pacific Region.
The site visit was initiated by the Department of Health in collaboration with the Department of Foreign Affairs. Leading the UP Manila welcome was Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Bernadette Heizel Reyes. #
