Danas: Human Library of Martial Law Victims
October 12, 2022
In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Martial Law, the University of the Philippines Manila will host Danas: Human Library of Martial Law Victims on October 12, 2022, 2:00-5:00 PM.
The program aims to showcase the experiences, lessons, and legacy of UP Manila faculty members who have experienced Martial Law. Martial Law, a crucial and controversial period in our national history, needs a retelling. In a period of fake news, disinformation, and massive historical distortion, there is a need to hear the stories during this period.
The event is intended “to commemorate members of the UP community who stood at the forefront of the resistance to Martial Law during the administration of President Ferdinand E. Marcos. The commemoration also serves to highlight the University’s role as a champion of academic freedom and as a beacon for hope and an advocate of human rights during the darkest days of democracy in the country.”
In line with this, we would like to invite everyone to the said event. The activity aims to shed light to better understand our national experience, especially with the assumption of President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Jr.
