"A class act: Two new orchid species" (Manila Bulletin)
Two new orchid species in the Philippines were discovered by the Cootes Orchid Research Group (CORG) led by Dr. Miguel De Leon, a retinal surgeon. The findings were published in the Orchideen Journal. The new species -- Aeridesturma and Aeridesturmafma.anniversarius-- were both named after Dr. De Leon's UPCM Class 1995 ('turma' is Latin for 'batch') , with the second orchid's other name specifically referring to the batch's 25th anniversary this year.
CORG's members are Miguel De Leon, Jim Cootes, Derek Cabactulan and Rey Pimentel.
