Health Research Methods - Course Description

This 3-day course will focus on the different steps in planning for and conduct of health research. The teaching-learning strategies include lectures, workshops and group discussions. The participants will apply the concepts learned in the development of their individual research proposals. During plenary sessions, participants will present their capsule proposals, which will then be commented on by fellow participants and a facilitator for fine-tuning.
 
Course Objectives At the end of the course, the students should be able to:
1. Formulate appropriate objectives for their identified research problem;
2. Conduct a review of related literature;
3. Construct a conceptual framework for their identified research problem;
4. Select the appropriate research design for their research objectives;
5. Select the appropriate sampling design for their research objectives;
6. Develop an appropriate data collection tool;
7. Select the appropriate statistical analysis for their research objectives;
8. Develop a time table and budget for a proposed study; and, 9. Identify the administrative and ethical issues in the conduct of research.
 

Information on short course offerings

Lectures, workshop, and plenary sessions will be facilitated by resource persons from the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics (DEBs) of the College of Public Health, University of the Philippines Manila.​ The Certificate of Training for completion of the course will be awarded to the participants who have attended at least 80% of the sessions, including lecture, workshop, plenary sessions, and presentation of capsule proposal, wherever applicable. Participants who fail to comply with the attendance requirement will only be given a Certificate of Attendance.
The Course Materials will be made accessible online through a shared Google Drive folder. Access to this folder is restricted to those who have completed registration and payment only. Google accounts are required for better access to the materials. Printed copies of session handouts will not be provided. In this regard, participants should bring their laptop/Mac computers for the duration of the short courses.
