UP Manila Emerges as the Sole Philippine University in Global Top 500 – U.S. News & World Report

The University of the Philippines Manila is the only Philippine University that entered the global Top 500 of the U.S. News & World Report 2026-2027 Best Global Universities.

The premiere health sciences climbed 50 notches higher than its previous ranking last year where it stood at #497. It placed #447 among the 2,250 universities ranked by the U.S. News & World Report.

UP Manila landed the #181 spot in clinical medicine and #112 in the best global universities in Asia. It also ranked #972 in global research reputation.

From its previous global score of 52.5 in the 2024-2025 tally, UP Manila has achieved a 2026-2027 global score of 50.8.

The rankings are based on 13 indicators that measure the educational institutions’ academic research performance and their global and regional reputations, including the number of publications produced, total citations, books, international collaborations, conferences, regional research reputation, and global research reputation.

“Ranking indicators were specifically chosen to enable cross-border comparisons of higher education institutions,” U.S. News & World Report explained. “While these rankings focus on academic research and reputation, prospective students looking for the right school for them can confidently assume that a ranked university has many highly respected faculty members.”

Furthermore, the methodology for the five regional rankings covering the top universities in Africa, Asia, Australia/New Zealand, Europe and Latin America was computed according to each institution’s position in the overall Best Global Universities rankings, U.S. News & World Report said.

Once again, UP Manila joined other universities that entered the roster of the best universities in the world, including Stanford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Princeton University,  and  Harvard University, among others.
