
July 31, 2019 — The multi-awarded University of the Philippines Manila Chorale has represented the country well again as it brought home awards and trophies in various categories throughout the 2nd Tokyo International Choir Competition last July 26-28 in Harumi, Tokyo.
Thirty-two members of the choir competed and bested 56 other choirs from all over the world as they emerged First Place and won the Gold Prize Diploma in the Category G Contemporary Music and Second Place
with the Gold Prize Diploma in the Category F Mixed Choir.
Mr. Emmanuel de Leon, Jr., the conductor and musical director of the team for seven years, also won the Outstanding Conductor Award.
Additionally, the team won the Best Interpretation for the Obligatory Piece Yamano Anata and was a finalist in the Grand Prix Rounds in the said competition.
