PROPharm has embarked on medical missions in both urban and rural areas with socio-political conflicts, and photo exhibits on such communities to increase students’ awareness on the dire health and social conditions of the people. This also serves as the members’ immersion with the urban and rural communities for them to understand that health problems were not merely pathological in nature but that prevailing social and political situations were part and parcel of the etiology of such sicknesses.
PROPharm has also been active in organizing and helping the student council in information dissemination campaigns and mobilization for mass actions on national issues such as the privatization of PGH—privatization of all government hospitals, Charter Change, Visiting Forces Agreement, and State of the Nation Address (SONAs); university-based issues such as tuition fee increase, STFAP bracketing, UP budget cut. National drug situation discussions were conducted for the member.
Other activities initiated and trademarked by the organization are: Blood letting program in coordination with PGH blood bank, candle lighting in commemoration of human rights victims of martial law, visits to orphanages and PGH wards, leadership training and nature trek for its members.
The support given by the organization to the UPPHA student council and USC has been very evident through its members’ participation not only in socio-political campaigns but also in cultural and athletic events. Many members take part in the Junior Fed Sportsfest, Freshmen Night and Bulagaan, Lantern Parade, Bakbakan, aside form attending summits inside and outside the university such as the UP Manila Students SUMMIT from 1997-2000, the Health Students forum in 1997, and the first National Youth and Students Summit sponsored by the National Union of Students of the Philippines (NUSP) in 2000.
